Located on NYC’s Upper West Side, La Covacha - meaning ‘a hole in the wall’ serves ‘antojerias’ or ‘little cravings’ using traditional, rustic recipes along with a selection of regional small-batch tequilas. For the interiors MMD used saturated colors, rustic woods, and tactile finishes to create an ‘always been here’ look. Wooden crates are repurposed into chandeliers above the bar, reflected into a towering hand-carved 19th century Mexican mirror. Faux windows were installed into back brick wall to create a sense of dimension. Tall arches - part of the original building - are emphasized with colorful trim.
