Wasteland is a group exhibition curated by LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division) Director and Curator, Shamim M. Momin, at two parallel venues in Paris: the Mona Bismarck American Center and Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac. The exhibition features Los Angeles-based artists. Drawing on T.S. Eliot’s modernist poem, The Waste Land, as thematic thread between the participating artists, the exhibition presents a complex, conversation about despair, morality, and the future. MMD was enlisted to create a visual identity for the exhibition. Drawing on handmade signs and plaques created during Word War I, this distressed, yet bold mark was used throughout the exhibit, advertisements, and signage. Creative deliverables included exhibition catalogue, a case-bound book, showcasing the artists’ pieces and essays from organizers. The catalogue features a variety of paper stocks to complement the photography and essays, and uses traditional bookbinding techniques.
